  1. Mike says:

Thanks, I have been waiting for P.O. to have a east coast tour so I could check them out…

  2. P-Rip says:

Bizness As Usual! Great tune from Ike’s first CD (Shoulda Gone Before I Left). The CD suffers from some recording or mastering problems, but there is some good stuff there.

  3. Empire Hancock says:

Wow, they’ll be playing Cleveland two days after Zappa Plays Zappa. Looking forward to both! I’ve seen P/O in Cleveland like 8 times.

  4. Graffiti On The Wall says:

The so called Amazingly talented Project/Object
poots forth with an In The Ball Park version of Ike Willis
    Biznis As Usual.

While I had waited and asked many a time to hear a live versions of solo efforts I was really hoping for a better effort with the Ike Willis material. Even though the audio fidelity is extremely flat I am happy that PO had included that in their set for far too long I had thought the band should abandon these all Zappa shows that are far too filled with in too much in the ball park Zappa.

I mean all these musicians must have some of their own music that they can perform so if their Zappa is not up to Zappa standards I figured they could give a percentage of these shows to solo efforts.
This sample shows me the same results.

Keep at it guys it was a pretty good effort.
If you can even get a Front f House mix sounding as good as ZPZs
Mammy Anthem Clip I’ll tip my hat 10 times to ya.

  5. Cool — thanks for the link and the inspiring words, Trendmonger/Gary.
Yep, we have our good nights, we have our bad nights. What are ya gonna do. Life.

Are things slow over at the zappa forum?? Good to see you here!

Graffiti, comparing P/O (or any other band playing Zappa’s music) with ZPZ is like comparing apples and oranges in my opinion. Every cover band interprets Zappa differently, which is what makes each and every band unique, including P/O. But since you have brought up the comparison (with your own audio of choice, thank you very much, by the way), while P/O’s audio may not be up to the same quality as ZPZ, the excerpts I chose do reveal P/O’s grasp of the “eyebrows” of the material (the humor, the playfulness, the improvisation) — something P/O’s audience’s obviously appreciate.

As mentioned many times – not being a huge friend of cover bands – this is actually what attracts me to them. Lately there were many posts at KUR with examples of cover bands and I must admit, that it was (more or less) fun, to watch and listen to the clips. But when it comes down to it, I´d rather stick with the orginal. Who´s turning again, now?

  8. profusion says:

I’ll try to make it to the Annapolis show–I really want to make it to a P/O show. A bit of tough sledding to Annapolis from D.C. on a Tuesday night…

  9. Matt says:

These P/O performances made me laugh out loud, something that ZPZ has never done for me. Looking forward to enjoying some expected imperfection in Cleveland. Viva los eyebrows!

  10. Empire Hancock says:

Oh, Gary. Once douchey, condescending statement after another.

re: live sound, P/O consistently plays smaller venues than ZPZ and don’t lug around their own PA and mixing board.

But, ultimately, who gives a fuck anyway

I’ve seen P/O 7 or 8 times in Cleveland.. I’ve lost count. Seen ZPZ in Ohio twice, too, and will be seeing them again.

@ Matt – amused to see a comment from another (presumed) Ohioan. Perhaps we will have to identify and greet each other at the next P/O gig.

  11. Matt says:

Yep, I’m a Clevelander. Have seen P/O twice in Cleveland and once in Erie PA. I saw ZPZ at Cain Park but will probably skip them this year–too many shows, as I’m also seeing Richard Thompson in Kent and Van der Graaf Generator in Cleveland, both in June.

I will be the guy yelling “I is Poopmonger!” 😉

  12. Hugh says:

Looking forward to my first P/O show @ Maxwell’s. UrbanG, thanks for the above tracks. I just caught Ed Palermo, Wednesday night. Great show! I can’t wait to see Ike. That voice is like butter! Smoooooth. It’s a shame that Ray’s only playing the one show. There is nothing better than the dynamite duo of soulful sounds, Willis & White. My first Zappa show featured these two giants of sound. Maybe Andre can hijack Ray and bring him to Jersey! I’ve never caught any of the original Mothers, so Don Preston will be a real treat. As well as seeing Andre & the rest of the band.
If you play an instrument, play Frank’s music. If you don’t play an instrument play Frank’s music. You should hear my shower version of, “Why does it hurt when I pee?”. I’m sure even Threadmonger would enjoy my bathroom acoustics! Tickets are still available, Trendy.
Oh shit . . . Gail & her hench-lawyers just broke into my bathroom!
“Ha! Your C&D letter is all wet and I WILL NEVER STOP SINGING FRANK’S MUSIC! DON’T MAKE ME USE THE TURBO MASSAGE MODE ON YOU BASTARDS! FUCK! THEY’VE BLINDED ME WITH MY OWN SOAP BUBBLES. OH, THE HUMANITY!”

Ah ha ha ha! This is hilarious! Hugh, I want tickets!

  14. Threadmonger!!!

Brilliant, Hugh. I collect these names somewhere in my head — he has inspired SO many….

Come up and say hi at Maxwell’s. If you’ve never been there they have great food, horrible parking in that area.

And if his plans go as planned, Ed Palermo will be there to play a few as well.

Until my C&D letter dries, call ticketmaster for “The Bathroom @ Joe’s Garage” subtitled (Why does it hurt when I try to lift this key attached to a spare tire?). Starring me! Hug(e)H IdioT.

Thanks, Andre. I’ll see you there.
Ed would be a fuckin’ great special guest. Let’s hope for the best.

  16. Jim says:

If you ever get a chance to see these guys in person, DO IT DO IT DO IT. Once in a lifetime experience. I’ve seen them 5 times in Boston, and got to meet Ike. I saw them with and without Napolean Murphy Brock. Incredible musicianship, great fun. If you’re unlucky enough not to have seen Frank Zappa live while he was alive, they channel his spirit and this is the closest going to get. I’ve also seen Zappa Plays Zappa and this is much better. Plus it’s close and personal.

And Andre’s great. Keep up the good work Andre!
