Hip Hop Meets The Violin

You know hip hop really isn’t my thing — never has been. Hook it up with a classically skilled violinist though, and things get interesting:

Not really hip hop, but lets say it is. Should we jump up and down as hip hop rediscovers the melodic content of music it discarded when it was established? Cute ethnic (gypsy) feel that creeps into the piece about half way. Nice experiment.

Excellent find, Barry. Reminds me of Don & Dewey Meet the 21st Century. If you think about it, hip hop is just the contemporary form of rhythm and blues, or so Boz Scaggs says in “Dig: Behind the Scenes”:

Listening to these two young musicians bodes well for the future.

This is impressive. Essentially they’re riffing on a medley of beats and tracks by A Tribe Called Quest, Gnarls Barkley and The Roots but it’s still refreshing to see and hear. I really enjoyed the violinist’s phrasing. He’s really quite good.
