Above Mr Thunes talks about his audition at the Zappa at the Roundhouse event. Below: still him on a) Ike Willis, b) Valley Girl, c) Solitude. Mr Thunes is a Great Guy.
For the hardcore fans: the whole Q&A in 11 parts (!), with Gail, Dweezil, Scott Thunes, Joe Travers, Todd Yvega, Ali N Askin.
Freakin’ sweet!
Thanks for the link!
Sadly, I think I understand what Scott means about Ike. This year at Zappanale my overiding thoughts when he was on stage were:
(a) He sounds bad
(b) I hope he doesn’t fall into the drum kit
Yay! Cool! And, um…Yay again. Time to make a brew and settle down and watch. Thanks for the post.
Matt.
Scott may, indeed, be awesome – but if I had to choose an alumni to hang with, it’d be Ike Willis. I’m not taking anything away from Thunes, or his abilities as a musician, I just don’t think he comprehends what Ike Willis needs to do, as a working musician, playing night in, night out, to pay the bills and put meat on the table. One can obviously hear the opinion of his ZFT benefactors behind his words – not every alumni agrees with the way the ZFT runs things [http://idiotbastard.com/Interviews/MikeKeneally.htm]. I mean, Ike Willis was the voice of Zappa for a very good reason. Who is Thunes to come 17 years after the fact and say otherwise?
Fun to hear Jeff Simmons. The rest is mostly the same ol’ blah, blah, blah.
At one point Gail says she will leave the blah blahing to the likes of Joe, Scout and Dweez. She’s unable to do that, of course.
The database is a myth!
