Jake’s review made me search the web for a while, and I’ve just run into the video above – it’s the rehearsal, the percussions seems to be a bit different, right?… And some more: a review of this week’s concert in the Los Angeles Times.

Are you sure this is from a rehearsal? I lost my videotape of the original tv-broadcast, so I can’t compare. And I don’t want to search youtube at the moment.
Nevertheless I think only the first of three shows in Frankfurt was filmed. Frank wasn’t present on the second evening. He was back on the third show that was not filmed โ I know because I was there.
None of the performances in Berlin nor Vienna was filmed I believe.
I wish somebody would release this on DVD. Another missed chance of the ZFT. They will probably wait until there is no interest in FZ anymore.

It sure isn’t the “original” recording we all know, and the original Youtube uploader says: “Rehearsals for Yellow Shark, Alte Oper, Frankfurt, 16 September 1992”.
As I see there is no audience, and the dancers seem to make some mistakes and they do not finish the thing very accurately, like they didi in the final version, so it really seems to be a rehearsal. (Well, anyway, it IS different from the one we know. ๐ )
Yeah, you’re right. I should have had examined youtube first โ before doubting.

Yes, Balint, this isn’t the original recording we all know, and yes, it is the rehearsal (Sept 16) for a performance which was broadcast live on German radio in Frankfurt on September 17th, 1992. I have a copy of this performance which is quite unique and distinct from Yellow Shark in many ways. A DVD copy is available for torrent from Zappateers by anyone interested:
