…you see, man of little faith? Now go on and beat those brazilians!! (you know, i love brazilians; but i don’t like how they are favoured by the referees! i don’t like that!)
My prognosis: we’ll play a great match against Brasil, and we’ll loose. Then again, I’m a man of little faith…
Maybe I should temporarily change this weblog’s title to: HotPoop – Fifa News & Other Lumpy Gravy…
ps: apparently the US-public doesn’t seem to give a shit that its team has passed on to the second round. Why don’t americans like soccer? My guess: americans need scores that easily run up into 30ies (see basketball). Soccer is more about suspense than it is about scoring points. Americans, I guess, can’t stand that kind of extended tension… (Ok, this is my last soccer related comment for now!)
I agree. Also, i’ve seen on The Simpsons that they find soccer bored…But just saw that in tv. No one confirmed this view yet…
Okay, okay! I don’t know about anybody else in America, but I find most sports boring. I will watch the Olympics, because it can be inspiring and I watch car racing (but I don’t follow too hard, I like Jeff Gordon, that’s all I know). But the regular channels (not cable) are filled with basketball and football, basketball and football with occaisional golf matches (flog spelled backwards)all weekend till I want to scream! They are even broadcasting high school games now. They are broadcasting World Cup even as I speak! So it is slowly overtaking us, don’t you worry. Soccer riot, soccer riot, oy, oy!
Rather skewed view of American sports, seeing how Baseball and Hockey rarely allows accruement of scores over 10 by either side. But I guess it’s easier to dismiss the fact and lambast an entire people’s sport preferences, then to investigate why Americans are not enthralled with what is obviously a global passion.
SOFA
After the match, I’ll just say one thing: Belgium deserved to win. Brazilians were just lucky (to be mellow; i don’t wanna quote myself from the first comment of this tread), Belgium played better all the time, it’s just the ball didn’t want to enter, not mentioning the goal they made in the first time…I know Barry had a feeling anticipating this, but actually, it was a pity. Belgians could have made it…
… I’m cryyyyyyiiiinggg…..
I totally agree with your analysis, Sharl. Of course, I am belgian. But we had the brazilians shaking on their legs for most of the match. The goal that was turned down: I can’t believe that shmuck of a referee; what the hell did he blow the whistle for??
Aah well… I think I could do with a nice cold beer now.
