Well, it’s not about menstruation, but I ran across this quote from the Realist while I was cruising around this site and following the links:

    “Consistency
From Isadora Altman’s syndicated sexual advice column:

    Q. Instead of trying to frame the question more delicately, I’ll just come right out and ask: Do vegans [vegetarians] swallow semen? Inquiring minds have to know!

P.S. Does it make any difference if the fellatio subject is also a vegan?

    A. Since the substance under discussion is an animal protein, the matter would have to be left up to the individual vegan’s conscience.”

…a link to bookmark, thanks Barry!
About the spit-swallow big question, i think vegans shouldn’t swallow semen, with all those little kids swimming around (that aren’t vegetables), you know, an actual vegan shouldn’t be swallowing that.
Oh, no..! Barry is starting to feel a little nauseated…ok, lemme see…Where’s my stitoscope…? somebody call 911…!!!

  3. Barry says:

Well here’s my two – uh – cents: if the semen is being released as a result of a blow job, it’s pretty certain that it’s going to die an untimely death regardless wether it be swallowed, or spit out and delivered unto the carpet… So hence my take on the matter: vegans should not feel ethically compromized to swallow.

  4. DebK says:

Somehow, I knew you would say that, Barry. I think that it would be ethically compromising for a vegan to even give a blow job, or receive one. It would be tantamount to a vegan going to a steak restaraunt, sitting down and ordering a steak dinner, even tho he or she was only going to eat the salad and potato. It’s not like the guy would say, “hey here’s a little protein surprise, open up!” At least I hope not!

  5. Barry says:

Okay, but, so then, vegans can’t have sex using a condom or any other birth control DEVICE either, no?
What an interesting discussion, this! ;-)

  6. DebK says:

Hmm, that’s a good point, but I think, the ethical problem is in the intention to eat something. Cunnilingus would be right out as well. (Glad I don’t have these problems!)

  7. Dr Sharleena says:

    Barry says:

Nor should any person…Swallowing semen is not an ethical problem, it’s a matter of feeling like doing it or not. Even if you are an usual swallower, you may be not feeling like doing it sometimes. So no one should feel compromized to do it, IMO. The ethical problem could be that vegans don’t eat animal’s substances…and semen is one of them.
    Then Deb sez:
I think that it would be ethically compromising for a vegan to even give a blow job, or receive one.
This, i don’t get. Why would it be compromizing for a vegan to give a blow job? because of the risk of swallowing the semen? Or for another reasons i don’t get? Morality of some sort, or something like that?
And this is totally cryptic to me:
Okay, but, so then, vegans can’t have sex using a condom or any other birth control DEVICE either, no?
Why??? Using a condom is not the same as swallowing semen. I don’t see why a vegan couldn’t use it for ethical reasons…
    Finally, Deb says:
but I think, the ethical problem is in the intention to eat something. Cunnilingus would be right out as well.
I think this the heart of the artichoke (how appropriate! :-)) I believe for a vegan, the question is: can i swallow this and not compromize my ethical/philosophical position toward eating just vegetable things? But i’d like to hear the opinion of an actual vegan. This is just what i imagine…

  8. DebK says:

Very astute, Dr. S. I would like add one qualifier. The matter is made more complex depending on whether the swallower is a vegan for health reasons or for ethical/religious reasons. If the vegan believes the eating of animal protein is bad for health, then the question is only one of avoiding swallowing semen. Unprotected sex and other activities would be another matter. However, if the receiver has an ethical/religious agenda (it is a sin to waste potential or actual living animal tissue) then we basically have a Roman Catholic position. No onanism, condoms, birth control, etc. In fact women should do penance every time they mensturate, since they are wasting potential human beings. Nice how I brought it back to the former topic. No? I promise, this is the last word on this subject. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

This question is ridiculous! Cunningulus or also none as eating a woman out is not actually eating, there is no digestion involved! Otherwise, it would be canabilism.

I dont eat animals because of the way we obtain them (going to the grocery store) we arnt even in the food chain n e more if we just buy our fuckin meat.. and because of the way the animals are treated.. etc.. i think it would be wrong for a vegan to eat semen if the human was kept in bad conditions or if the semen was bought from the store.. if its hand pumped haha and from the home its okay.. your not hurting the person whos semen your swallowing.. its alot deiifernt.. think about it

  12. Brii Davis says:

this IS a ridiculous thing! A vegan is a vegan in an attempt to preserve existing lives and eliminate cruelty (while there are vegans who do it for health reasons alone, their question lies in their reluctance or propensity to eat that protein, not in their veganism). Vegans do not strive to create all the lives they can(we do strongly urge spaying and neutering to eliminate euthanization). to digest semen means nothing. they are not babies; they’re but one ingredient in the recipe of baby-making. and it is not wrong, in this case, to consume an animal-derived protein, because the animal from whom it has been derived has given his full consent! there is no cruelty involved, thus it’s perfectly ethical for the true vegan to participate in (as the inherent idea behind veganism is not in the rigidity of the diet, but the adherence to the pursuit to end cruelty). it’s truly a non-issue!
