Debating the war on terror

Nice to see that you still hold your 26 American readers/contributors in such high esteem, Barry…
Also good to know that EVERYONE else in the world is of one mind regarding the war.
Yesterday, I drove across town on the main thoroughfare. There was a “demonstration” of support for our troops taking place – basically a “honk if you support us” kinda thing… A few of these mindless fucks held signs up to the effect of “For us, or against us?” and “America, love it or leave it”.
Leaving is not an option and I am not “FOR” any of it… I didn’t honk; I shook my head sadly. I was flipped off for my non-compliance.
I get the “anti-American” sentiment right here in my own fucking backyard, thank you very much.
As it rankles me so much, I guess I’ll be back when it’s all over…
SOFA
Well that sucks Sofa; I’m sorry to hear about what you experienced. For me as a European, it’s not a big thing to be against the war, as a large majority of Europeans are against it (and by Europeans I mean the people, not necessarily the governments). For you guys though, it’s not that simple. It’s obviously a very delicate subject over there with close to no space for nuance or argument. All the more reason why I appreciate your “just not honking” and “shaking your head sadly”. It doesn’t perhaps make a big difference, but in a way, I think it does make a big difference.
Peace bro’, and let’s just hope this sad sad episode is over as soon as possible…
And i was heckled here in belgium for being from the uk. ‘les angalais, les anglais… la guerre irak… pas gentil… ‘, what ? what ? la guerre irak ? ‘…guerre c’est jamais bon’. Well yes, i’ll just mention that to Mr Blair and the delta of the tigris will fill with flowers.
Not just in the U.S. of A. is such treatment handed out to “traitors”.
