Great shots! I wish I had a tape of the show. I miss Ruth and Ian – heck, I miss that whole band. It’s going to be a rainy day here today – any guesses of what cd’s will be gracing the player today?

  2. Barry says:

I suggest either Roxy or ycdtosa 2…

Ahhh, the seventies! What fashion! FZ’s sporting some SERIOUS PLAID there. What’s more intriguing is that wacky Gibson SG he’s playing. Check out the Gretsch-style vibrato and the white headstock. I don’t think that’s his regular guitar – where did he get that one?

  4. DebK says:

I have this tape! Not in great shape and I have no way to copy it. Yes, that coat is definitely memorable.

  5. The Opopoppa Guy says:

This TV special was called Opopoppa, and the theme song is just great. Debk, you probably know what I’m talking about.

  6. Eric Johnson says:

Yeah, I believe those are video stills, not actual photographs. And if you guys couldn’t tell, it’s ALL the musicians from Over-nite Sensation! I have the video too.

  7. Bob Again (the quibble-meister) says:

There are a couple notable MIA’s from the Over-Nite Sensation line-up, one being Ricky Lancelotti, the other being Sal Marquez. I’m glad tapes of this show exist even if I don’t have one. It’s kind of like knowing there are still a few pristine areas of wilderness on this earth (Republicans willing) even if I will never see them. I saw this band at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago – great seats, great show, cucka-rotcha! That was very nearly, exactly 30 years ago – Great Googly Moogly!

  8. DebK says:

It would have been very easy for me to have seen the Auditorium show, but at the time I just wasn’t interested. The sadness of my life. But I do have the music, now!

  9. Bob Again, again says:

I looked up the date of that show – May 16, 1973. It was quite a show. I don’t remember much in the way of details. FZ’s touring style was different from others, as we all know, in that he tended to play music in advance of it’s recorded release. Therefore, what I remember are the few nuggets from earlier records that were included, and a general amazement at the overall show. Having seen a couple of the vaudeville era shows, I was glad to see Frank get back onto a more challenging path.
