The american public holiday of independence day. What should a non-american make of this institution. An FZ fan would possibly wonder, since, ‘Frank Zappa, his raucous band, and Captain Beefheart effiecently bash and bite at Independence Day’. Why could this be ? Well, ‘He’s obviously an intellectual who is concerned with politics and the environment’, and i’d guess fz might have thought it had something of a ‘sinisterly creepy brainless chorus’ about it. my take on it is that zappa “bashes and bites” on close to everything… there are no sacred cows and that includes his own fans. a friend of mine once witnessed him go off on a bunch of groupies in a back alley after a show for the same conclusion you reached about the former.
It’s a day off and the way we in America celebrate the beginning of summer. What could be wrong with that? Despite what stupid politicians do we deserve our well earned respite. Tommorrow we will face the grey dawn. Does anyone really think the Democrats (FZ and GZ’s fave rave political party) would save us if they were in power?
Save you guys? I doubt it… Save us non-americans from Dubya Bush? Yes! :-)
A day off is great, and the start of summer is well worth a celebration. I think though there is an uneasy juxtaposition between the idea of independence as america (i think) sees itself, and independence as america (i think) doesn’t always see the rest of the world. Maybe america doesn’t trust that (at least some of) it’s ideas *are* best, and so the rest of the world still gets intercontinental marketed america rather than take it or leave it america.
Ahem! Please sign on to Google search. Type in “weapons of mass destruction” and hit the “I’m feeling lucky” button. Have fun!

The thing about America, Bertanya is that it is a mixed bag. There are the people who are the type of “patriotic” Amerikan who are into “apple pie, mom, the flag, the xtian god, heterosexuality, baseball and bomb those godless _______ (insert hated group here) back into the stoneage” and that is the one true right and only way. Then there are those who know America is about freedom and freedom of conscience. Whether or not you salute the smoke every morning, or like strawberry-rhubarb pie, maybe have an unusual family group, have an alternative lifestyle, hate sports and don’t particularly want to bomb anybody, especially when it is counterproductive. Bush may not destroy America (and Europe) but the fact that he stole the election and wants to emphasize the fact that we could be attacked at any minute (not bloody likely) so he can start pushing his conception of a police state down our throats may so change this wonderful land that it will no longer be recognizable. “It’ll just look ugly for a thousand years”. Will this effect Europe? I guess so. My question to myself is. “Who do I vote for next election?” If I vote my conscience I risk throwing away my vote and having Bush again (gag retch) or vote the other main party, who I don’t like any better. >sigh
