Ten years ago, I saw the closing stinger of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode “Village of the Giants,” a black and white picture of Frank holding his guitar. It’s been the spark that has ignited many Zappa fans’ love for his music; it turned me on to the guy, just because “if MST3K cares about him, shouldn’t I?”

Ten years! Has it been that long? There are people I know who saw him in concert, who were there when it first began. Ten years of the passing, of living in the afterglow. I missed something bright go by, and the world is all the worse for it.

Ten years later. Yeah. We’ve ended up here. Crank the Frank. Play it and let’s be glad that someone like him came along.

    We wont forget him!
    We’ll stay playing his music.

Keep it comming, Music is Best!

  3. Dr Sharleena says:

I think i’ll start with Waka/Jawaka. Right now. And yes, let’s be glad that someone like him came along!

  4. Bálint says:

…and yes, let’s be glad that by him a few people with same interest came togedher with “yet another tribute” page. Thank you, Mr. Zappa – thank you, friends.

  5. DebK says:

I’m getting fucking teary eyed! Did you guys see the tribute to FZ on Zappa.com? Sad days. The best part of him is still here – his music and the people who remember.

  6. Bob Again says:

    Mister America, walk on by…

    Go ahead and cry
Go ahead and let the tears fall out of your eye
Let ’em fall on your dress
Who cares if it makes a mess?
I gave you my high school ring
    At the root beer stand
We had a teen-age love, baby
    I thought it was charp
It was really so grand . . . but

  7. bernard says:

Early this morning, I woke up to “Joe’s Garage.” Then, I pulled out my vinyl copy of “Fillmore East, June 1971,” played Side 1, then switched to a bootleg from the Bianca period, then Side 2 of “Fillmore,” Then I watched the Saturday Night Live episode he hosted, fallowed by the Ren & Stimpy episode “Powdered Toast Man,” to which FZ contributed his voice to THE POPE. Then I put on “You Are What You Is.” (Any Downers? is playing right now.) After it’s done, my 3-CD rotary changer system will switch to “FZ Meets The Mothers Of Prevention.”

For some reason, I always thought I was the only nutcase to do this stuff (never heard of anyone else doing it). For the past almost-30 years, I’ve spent the whole week surrounding Sept. 18 listening to nothing but Jimi. Unfortunately, for the past 10 years, it’s been the same story with FZ the week around today’s date. Call me a sentimental old fool, but this is the way I pay my respects and give my love. There will never be another Frank and, rather than mourn his loss, we should be grateful that he showed up at all and shared his talents. Same goes for Jimi, Igor, Jerry G., etc.

Barry–Thanks for giving me a forum to babble in. And now I must return to the pipe, the bottle and “The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution.” Good night Frank, wherever you are!

  12. Dominic says:

maybe Frank has just left the building, but Jesus, let him come back,we don’t wanna Frank Zappa dead.

  13. Richard P says:

I did something on Dec.5th. that I hadnt done in 10 years I didn’t listen to any FRANK ZAPPA that day,I forced myself to listen to an Eminem CD then a Britney Spears CD. That was the sadest day that my ears will ever remember. The next morning on went the FZ (when Frank said MUSIC IS THE BEST he hadnt forseen the future I guess?) KEEP ON ROCKING IN THE NOT SO FREE ANYMORE WORLD!!!
