Frank Zappa Gig List

Feeling a bit bored today, I went to check out Charles Ulrich‘s fabulous Frank Zappa Gig List (version 04/04/04). Much as I appreciate this treasure of information, I’ve always deplored the fact that it wasn’t searchable in any way — I mean, you have to sort of drill into the “HTML version” quite a bit to find what you’re looking for. So, since I was bored, I grabbed the txt version and dropped it in a database. There’s quite a bit of flaws in the txt giglist formatting (superfluous tabs, bad date-formats, etc), but I’m weeding them out as we speak. Watch this site as, soon, it will offer a fully searchable, database-based version of the FZ Gig List!

He didn’t visit Wales the twat

  2. Guac says:

and just why WOULD anyone visit Wales ?
“Land of my Fathers’ – well they can keep it.”

You wouldn’t think a FZ list would be a hotbed of racialism wouldja? But there’s always one…Are you the bastard offspring of Anne Robinson then nazi boy?

  4. Guac says:

Oh calm down ferchrissake ! (whoever you are that chooses to remain nameless)
Have you ever been to Wales ?

  5. Poohbear says:

No, he didn’t visit Wales, thank god! If we want to see misogynistic right wing assholes we can go over the Severn Bridge and visit the english. And it only costs £4.60, considerably cheaper than a gig.

  6. Guac says:

It gets worse ! you’re telling me that you’ve gotta pay TO LEAVE the place !!

  7. Bob Again says:

Did FZ have something against Rwanda? I don’t believe he ever played there either.

  8. Barry says:

I can see there is definitely a need to have the FZ gig list searchable! Leeds nill – Hull one! ;-)

  9. Poohbear says:

You don’t travel much do you Guac? You pay to get INTO Wales. (I was thinking of the return journey of course but didn’t realise I would have to break it down to this level.) You really should get over your prejudice and visit Wales one day, it’s a great place. Just a shame about the annoying neighbours…

  10. bertanya says:

Wales, wales, bloody great fishes are wales. They swim in the sea, eat plankton for tea, oh bloody great fishes are wales.

    – to the tune of the chorus of the welsh national anthem.

Ok, so they’re mammals, but why let only approximate facts get in the way of a good song.

  11. Guac says:

Believe it or not Poohbear, I have been to Wales a number of times – all work related so it wasn’t a matter of choice. I found little to commend it and I’m equally happy to point out any failings – and there are many – in my neck of the woods; Scotland. I don’t have a problem with anyone else voicing their opinions about the place either – so you won’t find me jumping up and down shouting “racist !” about something so triflingly parochial.

  12. Montana Wildhack says:

But Zappahas been to Scotland Guac you fuckwit

Thank you Montana Wildhack – possibly the nicest thing that anyone’s repeated to me so far today.
Indeed Zappa did play Edinburgh Playhouse on 14/02/77 and Glasgow Apollo on 13/02/77 and 14/02/79 – I did not see him at any of those gigs.
I saw him at Wembley Arena on 17/06/80 and at Hammersmith Odeon on 19/06/82 ( and by the way I don’t like London either ).
