A bit later than usual, but I think it was worth the wait: Binghamton, NY, May 1st ’74.

Looking forward to this one…A classic line up and a great set list.
(Great site, very civilised idea this Friday Boot thingy, but I have trouble downloading the longer tracks, only having dial-up. Any chance of splitting the really long ones for us tecnologically backward folk…or is it just me?)
beautiful, but sound very distorted…
g.a.p.: is there any reason you’re still on dial-up? ADSL/cable has become really cheap in recent years. Maybe it’s time for a little investment? Other than that, if you’d like to obtain some boots but don’t have the bandwidth to download them, why don’t you check out KUR’s Uncle Beat Forum. Kinda like snailmail downloading! :)
Hey G.A.P. (Gary Puckett???)
I am also on dial up (though DSL is supposedly coming at the end of the month!) if you can’t afford or get DSL or something, get yourself a download manager. Go to http://www.nonags.com or some other freeware site, there are several good free ones out there. The DL manager can resume the DL from where it was stopped so you don’t have to start over anymore, plus the DL process can in in the background so you never have to see it. :-)
Good luck!
Bill
Cheers Bill, thanks also Mr Barry’s Imaginary Publisher.
Incidentally, does anyone know if Uncle Remus was ever performed live? Pleasant little ditty, that.
(g.a.p…giant albino penguin)
(Hey Sharl, does this sound familiar?)
In a word, g.a.p., no. Technically, sorta, but not really. It’s one of the few “FZ” tunes out there that was not performed live (as we know it).
It does exist, in an embryonic form, in a few CT disks in circulation…
Indeedy, it’s the second Holy Grail for the Zappafans Templar Knights…
g.a.p.,SOFA: … errhmm, sorry to contradict, SOFA, but there’s actually a few live versions of Uncle Remus around, well worth checking out. Looking up the swipnet.se database gets you the following five(!) shows listing Uncle Remus as part of their setlist:
7-Mar 1973, Columbus OH
18-Apr 1975, New Haven CT
12-Feb 1988, Philadelphia
27-Feb 1988, Detroit
8-Mar 1988, Pittsburgh
btw SOFA, what does the “CT” in your comment stand for ?
vrnzr: I think SOFA was alluding to “aural availability” as opposed to UncleRemus actually having simply been played live… As for “CT”: might that be “cassette tape”?
And now: out to lunch… ;)
Sorry,
CT means concert tape – meaning a recorded show.
The two 70’s dates you mentioned were the “embryonic” form that I mentioned.
I wasn’t really including the ’88 stuff in my assessment of whether it had been done live…
Didn’t mean to confuse anyone.
Something to remember about ‘Uncle Remus’: George Duke actually wrote the music – FZ just wrote the lyrics. If you haven’t heard it, check out George’s version of it as it was originally concieved (a gospel parody) on his ‘The Aura Will Prevail’ (excellent album overall, BTW).
Serendipity!
@ TheBigNoteDotCom: The Aura Will Prevail complete download. Won’t be around for much longer so get it while you can…
you guys are incredible!
The version of ‘Echinda’s Arf’ also to be found there is great.
