sounds like it could be the Roxy DVD?

  2. mcnastie says:

IT HAS TO BE THE ROXY DVD, OTHERWISE WHY WOULD THEY BE SO HUSH HUSH? IT BETTER BE THE ROXY DVD, FOR GAIL’S SAKE. THE SOONER SHE GETS THIS OUT THE SOONER SHE CAN START RAKING IN THE CASH – ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE LINED UP TO BUY THIS SUCKER THE SECOND IT DROPS! APPARENTLY HAVING THE LAST NAME ‘ZAPPA’ DOESN’T NECESSARILY MEAN YOU’VE GOT THE WORK ETHIC TO MATCH TO MAN…

  3. mcnastie says:

…NOT THAT I’M A RAGING ‘GAIL/ZFT-HATER’ – I JUST THINK THAT IMHO THEIR TIME, EFFORT & MONEY WOULD BE BETTER SPENT ON THINGS LIKE THE ROXY AND KCET-TV PROJECTS, INSTEAD OF THIS DOMAGE, CORSAGE, AND X-MASAGE NONSENSE. EVERYBODY HAS A SOFT SPOT FOR THE DUKE/UNDERWOOD BAND. BUT I HAVE RESIGNED MYSELF TO ‘WHAT WILL BE WILL BE’. I KNOW THAT ANY POSTHUMOUS STUFF AT ALL IS A BONUS, SINCE ZAPPA BASICALLY WANTED GAIL AND THE FAMILY TO STAY OUT OF THE BIZ ALTOGETHER AFTER HIS DEATH. BEGGARS CAN’T BE CHOOSERS, I GUESS…

  4. Jeff says:

Actually, according to Gail in the new Relix magazine interview, they turned over the 1974 KCET-TV performane to Filipetti. So I don’t think this is the Roxy concert.

  5. Jeff says:

    Also, Roxy is from 1973.

  6. Bob Again says:

    I hear the ocean!!

  7. mcnastie says:

OH YEAH, I FORGOT THAT ROXY IS FROM THE END OF 73 – AND I’VE ONLY SKIMMED THROUGH THE RELIX ARTICLE. I’M HAPPY WITH KCET STUFF – HOPEFULLY IT’LL BE SANS-BICKFORD DURING INCA ROADS. I LOVE BICKFORD, BUT I CAN’T STAND WHAT FRANK DID TO THAT FOOTAGE, DURING HIS AND DUKE’S SOLOS (AND DURING THE FAST 7/8 PART)…I WANNA WATCH THEIR FINGERS MOVE AROUND ON THE QUICK NOTES…THE LITTLE QUICK ONES, OKAY?

  8. tombo says:

What will be, will be? My philosophy is: What is here, is here. So I will only believe in any publication by the ZFT once I hold it in my hands.

And someone is in for the BIG letters, me thinks ;)

By the way, howsabouta Zappa Subscription? Get an album every month, delivered to your door. Perfect for newcomers … oh well. Just me thinking.

  9. Balint says:

KCETV would be nice – hopefully the full version, with Trouble Every Day and so on.

  10. Bob Again says:

    hopefully…

…the most used (and misused) word in the English language. Gail is even prone to inserting it into conversation on a strictly random basis…

    …almost Chinese, huh?

  11. xorg says:

    zzzzzz….

  12. Paul Sempschi says:

I perfectly logical conclusion would be that it is for a KCET release-most likely audio. However, these projects mutate, look at where the Grand Wazoo vinyl project lead us: Petit Wazoo cd. I assume that the GZ logic is, “hey everyone wants the Roxy DVD, so there must a market for the fusion stuff. Lets pull up another concert from that era, cut it down to 30 minutes, tweeze it to DVD-A, so no one can download it and sell it off the website!
Also if there was a subscription program, it wouldnt be advised to sign up for it. According to a Zappa.com forum post, there are still people waiting for their “Old Masters” box sets…Which makes you wonder, perhaps Zappa wanted the family out of the music biz so that they would sell the bulk of his tapes and let someone professional handle the archival project…

  13. Balint says:

…well, it doesn’t say at all that it’s gonna be a DVD, or audio DVD, nor they are tlaking about KCETV, thus it could be any show from ’74 – or am I wrong?

  14. Birdman! says:

When I first read it, I assumed that whatever he was doing for ZFT was 5.1 like the S&G project, but that isn’t necessarily true.

In the credits for Dub Room Special, there is no mention of the fabulous Frank Filipetti, who won a Grammy for James Taylor’s “Hour Glass”, much of which was tracked guerilla style, on location with inexpensive gear – Martha’s Vineyard w/ Yamaha 02R and Tascam DA88s (if only inexpensive digital gear had been available to Zappa when his idea for “Trout Mask” was to engineer it like afield recording), but in the Dub Room DVD credits there is this:

“Excitement & Enthusiasm for this project and especially the ensuing soundtrack on CD: Ahmet Zappa”

Maybe Frank Filipetti is doing the soundtrack CD. His other engineering credits include Carly Simon, Elton John, Barbara Streisand, and Mariah Carey. Sounds like just the guy for Zappa!

  15. Bob Again says:

…not to mention Joe’s personal fave – HEART!!

    Ich liebe HEART!!

  16. JOE says:

I (insert dual-lobed heart symbol here) HEART!!
