This seems quite demanding of a request, and i doubt it will speed up the process. A Petition! I want to see the Roxy DVD as much as the next guy, but Pete Griffin (bass player of ZPZ) himself told me that there are audio and technical issues that are holding it back from being completed. I’m sure the Zappa Family Trust want it released as well, but it takes time to deal with the technicalitites. Apparently a lot of footage isn’t properly synched up with the audio so that could take ages and lots of $$$ to sort out. I for one am going to patiently wait for the day, just as I did with the Led Zeppelin DVD which also had similar issues. That was worth the wait, and hopefully this is too.

…Joe Travers: It’s sitting in the vault. Waiting for a budget to do it properly. Basically the film footage, the negatives were transferred by Frank in the ’80s using ’80s technology. What we want to do is go back to the original negatives and do it in High Definition and then create a 5.1 mix from the original masters so that we have surround sound as well as Frank’s 2 channel stereo mix. Once we get all that together, then we need to cut the program. Edit the program together, camera angles, what shows, what we are going to include from what shows or include all the shows. I have no idea what Dweezil and Gail want to do. It’s great stuff, but the process of just getting to that point is going to cost a lot of money and take a lot of time…and blah, blah, blah.

  3. It all, quite simply, boils down to this: do not make promises you know you cannot deliver.

if it wasn’t for the dramatically craptastic shitfest that was joe’s domage/corsage/x-masage, the zft would have more money and time to work on the roxy film…they shouldn’t put a trailer on a dvd in 2003 that says ‘coming soon’ and tease/torture the loyal hardcore types in the intervening 3 years. the way the zft behaves makes them look a little, ah, how do i say this?… RETARDED, i think that’s the word. esp. when compared to the efforts of their late spouse/father/benefactor. they seem determined to do everything backward. i’m sure they have their reasons, but i’m sure those reasons suck shit & don’t really explain much of anything – as has been the case for the last 3 years.

having said all that, i WOULD like to see terry bozzio perform ‘i’m so cute’ with the zpz band.

It has been clear for some time now that the ZFT is just not up to the task. They should do the decent thing and make a deal with a company (even Warner Brothers!) that has the resources to get the job done.

  7. Sterbus says:

    I can wait.

  8. Mark M says:

Hey, the way I see it, each and every posthumous release from the ZFT should be treated as pure candy.

  9. mcnastie says:

bah. the zft, in their exalted ivory tower, are going to behave as the zft sees fit. us peons and trolls, down here in the fields, rolling around in mud and pigshit…we ain’t got no says in it anyways. so, our only option as zappa fans amidst this sad-sack dickensian squalor is to cup our cracked, gnarled, outstretched hands and creak between chapped lips…’more, please? can i please have some more, sir?’ (or however the fuck it went when dickens wrote it).

What? Some people…SOME PEOPLE like to pretend that Frank is still alive.

We have KUR and the weekly bootlegs,
we have our own FZ catalogues,
but still we whine and complain.

I am ambivalent about the ZFT.
    It’s not Frank. He’s gone.

Maybe we could get all bent because
    Webern’s music isn’t spoon-fed to us
    like little sissies. Grow up!
