Ready to sell your soul to the Devil? Robert Johnson’s Gibson L1 is being sold — for a mere $6,000,000 no less. The sellers claim this is Robert Johnson’s actual Gibson L1 guitar, as seen in the iconic studio portrait.

It seems more beat-up in the original photo than in the photograph of the one being sold. Anyway, for that kind of money, you could pay a scientist to use some of Robert’s DNA and create a clone and have him then play his guitar.
I love Robert Johnson
Think he probably did sell his soul to the Devil
All of his songs are blues standards.
(Just ask E.C if you don’t beleive me)
But there is no way in hell that is THE Gibson
in the photo.
Nopers.
Nice title, Barry. That’s an hilarious RJ song – and they’re red hot!
It COULD be Johnson’s guitar, but so what if it is? It ain’t worth 6 million bucks unless The Deal With The Devil is thrown in and you get the Titties n’ Beer as well!
J-butter,
Have you heard Robert Gorden’s take of this classic? Link Wray screams… It’s not a cover; they co-opted the concept. But Red Hot rocks.
The thing I liked best about listening to the RJ box was how many ‘rock’ songs were little more than RJ rip-offs – not to mention the admitted covers.
(I should be ashamed, but Foghat playing Terrapin Blues was exquisite.)
AFA the guitar goes, were I to know that the money would somehow get to Robert’s kin, or to one of the established foundations that helps destitute musicians, I’d say 6 mil was a steal.
If (as I suppose is true) the price only goes to the trecherous cretin that has put this ‘museum piece’ up for sale, I hope it draws 6 cents…
