Baby MOFO Reviews

Now that it’s available in stores, I’ve put up a page for the “Baby” MOFO release over at the discography section. If you’ve already purchased it, why not post a review?

I gather that the first disc is just the Bob Stone mix of the album ala Ryko but lets get confirmation, come on and write a review, COME ON!!!

  2. I haven’t purchased this little sucker (yet), but disc one is definitely not a Bob Stone/Ryko mix as far as I can tell — check the wiki’s MOFO page for more details…

  3. Paul Sempschi says:

Well that perked my ears up- original stereo mix, eh? This album sounds better and better, I guess it never hurts to have low expectations

  4. P-Rip says:

I received little MOFO Last night. It’s a good mix of the original album. In my opinion, there is nothing particularly interesting on the second disk – nothin that really gives any insight. Most of the tracks on disc 2 are basic tracks without vocals or alternate takes or an alternate mix of something. Maybe nice to have it “all in one place”, but again, nothing revealing or insightful.

The one dialog track has Frank trying to hustle “extras” out of the studio so he could be efficient with studio time. That’s about the only bit of “insight” I heard.

I can’t imagine what Gail has filled four discs with.

  5. Balint says:

“basic tracks without vocals”?…. Err… Maybe on the other two discs there will be some more “basic tracks” without drums, one without guitar, etc. Great.

  6. Bob Again says:

I know everyone is dying to hear what I have to say about all this (There’s no room to breathe in here)…

It’s nice to have a re-re-re-mastered disc of the original that sounds more like the original, but I’m not interested in having the MO stuff. Oh, and please tell me this – why the later “re-mixes”? Wasn’t there enough “MO” stuff without beefing it up with “re-MO”? Did they use all the “MO” stuff on the core saga discs?

…the vault is a myth. Long live the Friday Boots!

  7. ZarFT says:

that’s right, Bob, but it took you this long to figure it out? haven’t our actions been telling you that all this time?

THE VAULT is, indeed, a myth created by that master (and, need we say? >>> re-master) marketing magician himself. Do we have to tell you who? I don’t think we do, but here’s a clue >>> he’s up there, listening to every word we say and laughing his ass off at what a bunch of silly fools you all are right this very moment (yes, that’s him smoking the Winston with his cup of coffee)

..so buy this stuff and shut the fuck up!

  8. Joe nntj says:

    she made me do it!!

  9. xorg says:

32.99 GBP at HMV and 28.49 GBP at Amazon. Seeing as I already have the original LP and the Ryko CD that’s a lot to pay for some ‘basic tracks’ and ‘different mixes’! No thanks.

  10. vince says:

c’mon…… how ’bout a ‘sorry-to-keep-you-waiting-present’ of some sort. Throw us a frekin’ bone here!

  11. SOFA - Philostopher/Chef says:

You all just don’t get it, do ya?

  12. xorg says:

Nope, Sofa, I don’t. Care to explain?

  13. SOFA - Philostopher/Chef says:

Not really; not enough time or space…
But it has a whole lot to do with supply / demand, with a healthy chunk of availability mixed in.
American way – threatened by us…

  14. Bob Again says:

    I’m a vampire, babe!

  15. … suckin’ blood from the earth?

  16. xorg says:

    Aaah, fergeddit!

  17. abe says:

on a weird note. got the baby…worth it?? i guess thats for the imagination of the imaginer. or rather the mind of who’s shelling out the money. i think its fine. waiting for the 4 disc and see whats different. i just like to hear music from FZ. ah well im not here to convince anyone. get it if you want. anyway, the weird note is…i ran into ROY ESTRADA a couple days ago and he signed it for me. so i for one am glad i bought it.

  18. Paul Sempschi says:

Wow, Roy! So how’s he doing? what does he think about this release?

  19. xorg says:

…and does he get any royalties?

  20. Rob says:

Big MOFO is “now available” on the Zappa.com site, and is no longer listed as a pre-order. Should I hold my breath?

  21. ZarFT says:

holding one’s breath for an extended period of time is not advised.

  22. Bob Again says:

    royalties…probably a matter of supply/demand/availability.

That’s alright, honey. You can come out of the closet now.

  23. SOFA - Philostopher/Chef says:

Royalties come with the supply side. The more rights held, the greater the supply will be.
The biggest issue is the availability…
Just because we have a pirated simulation, doesn’t mean that it’s available. Baking the shit to preserve it is one thing. Remixing it to the standards FZ set for his music is quite another.
We all know the demand exists; tho’ our naivete allows for an inflated image of said demand. (C’mon, we love it, the world must love it too.)
The business is doing what it’s supposed to do. How the business is conducted leaves a bit to be desired, IMO…

  24. Bob Again says:

hmmm…I might be slow, but I think I’m starting to get it? No, probably not.

  25. urbangraffito says:

I think Bob Again’s right…I just don’t get it…I must’ve become one of those “pojama people” whilst waiting for Baby MOFO reviews to arrive.
