There’s an article on The Onion today that I think we can all relate to: Frank Zappa Fan Thinks You Just Haven’t Heard The Right Album.

We should invite Roger to visit KUR. He is not alone!
Got a direct link to the ‘article’? I can find it on the Onion page.
Nope, no direct link. It’s on the bottom of the front page under “News in Brief”…
Aw heck, I’ll just copy/paste it for posterity’s sake:
“NEDERLAND, CO—In spite of your insistence that you are not into Frank Zappa, avid fan Roger Von Lee believes that you would change your mind if you heard the right album. “You’re prejudiced, because the only Zappa you know is ‘Valley Girl’ and ‘Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow,'” Von Lee told you Tuesday. “Seriously, you need to check out Hot Rats or Absolutely Free. Zappa and the Mothers were at their peak, and Zappa’s jazz-rock fusion experiments predate Bitches Brew. That’ll totally convince you that Zappa’s the shit.” Von Lee added that if those two don’t get under your skin, he can recommend another 15 to 20 albums that will for sure.”
Hilarious! I actually sent this to a few friends and one asked if I thought they were making fun of FZ. I said that there’s probably a guy on The Onion staff who says that stuff all the time (I know I do!) and they just ran with it. “Having fun,” not “making fun.” What do you guys think?
Raise the hand the ones of you that never told that to a friend at least once…(replacing with your fav picks where it sez Hot Rats and Absolutely Free). See? No one raised the hand! :-)
So what if they are “making fun of Frank”? It’s ot as if he never dished it out!
PS I don’t think they are I think they are making fun of guys like the one described at http://www.beefheart.com/zine/welshpsycho/001zappapology.htm
Thanks for the link Montana Wildhack – I quite enjoyed that article, especially the bit “Benny Hill with guitar solos”
