It figures. Yesterday we watched Kill Bill Vol I on DVD, today I get to announce a Roxy show from Sept 14 ’73, track 6 of which is named, what else: Kung Fu.
Update: zappa.com forum member Unica (aka “He Who Announces The Friday Boot On The Zappa Dot Com Forum Every Week”) posted some nice newspaper scans from around this date. Here they are: 1 | 2 | 3.
The Jean-Luc Ponty farewell show, sort of… ;-)Looking forward to hearing this one. Thanks again, Gilles & Barry!
Thank you! I had a show from around this time, from Liverpool – from vrnzr :-). It includes Brown Shoes. So thanks for this one!
Lovely! A classic ’73 show
Of course, what really makes this a classic is that I am in the audience…
Oh, nice xorg, go ‘head ‘n rub it in! ;)
Actually, do you still remember anything from this show and if so, care to share it with us?
What impressed me was that FZ had gone in yet another direction. I’d seen the Grand Wazoo the year before, Flo & Eddie the year before that and The Mothers before that, and here he was with something new again!
And how did the Wazzo tour sound like? It should have been great, but the existing recordings are not the best (the sound quality). So: did it sound nice?
The sound wasn’t that great – mostly because the gig was in the open air, at a venue not built for big band music : The Oval Cricket Ground in London. But it was good enough to hear what was going on and I loved it! Jeff Beck was also on the bill and he was good too. Hawkwind came on last, after FZ, when it was dark so that their light show could be seen. They were crap!
