Just Another Band

The album of the month on Chrome Dinette for January is Just Another Band From L.A. Well, might not be bad, but sometimes I just don’t get the feeling – that’s why I was so surprised to find myself enjoying Playground Psychotics so much… Sounds great!

good webpage. you must scroll down and listen to the crossfire interview with zappa.
it breaks my heart. who will stand up like frank these days. no one. we are losing the fight since frank left us. we need to fight what is happening right now in the world. aside from the greatest composer that i can concieve of, this man’s head was ahead of his time.

this album is in my top three favorites by FZ, if not my all time favorite. billy the mountain is a spectacular piece. some say it takes some time to get used to flo and eddie, but for me it never did. i love every minute of this recording, though it is definitely not the first i give to my friends who are trying to get into zappa. they get apostrophe…

Alas, too bad there was not a studio album by this line-up. Most people seem to hate Frankrock (not me) but no one seems to mind this particular batch of Frankrock. Albeit, they instead hate their voices.
    I dont.

Maybe Joe will be able to come up with something from “The Vault”….Joe’s Flossage?

I liked the Flo & Eddie line-up, but prefer others such as on YCDTOSA vol 2 and Uncle Meat – I find I listen to these time and again but Flo & Eddie very rarely.

I like Billy the Mountain just fine.
Some of the other stuff is alright.

About Frank being ahead of his time…

In his way he was so prophetic. This
was no mean feat for an “ordinary” guy.

On top of his immense intellect was situated
an unparrelled set of fucking BALLS.
Where does that come from I wonder?

Does anybody you know have those kind of
    balls? Not me.

i have never heard this album but am so intrigued by the comments from Klaus Voorman above that i am immediately anxious to do so.Can anyone recommend a way to get to listen to Billy the Mountain without buying the album…i have just purchased ycdtosa vols1-6 and my economy is fucked for the present. For purists i always end up buying the album legit if i like it but i like to get to listen in advance when possible…i mean you don’t buy a kilo of potatoes without looking at them first!

  9. Muzza: May I suggest you get a free trial account at emusic.com and then obtain a free download of JABFLA? You’ll love it, it’s a way of life! ;)

Because of the prompt and thoughtful help from barry’s imaginary publisher yesterday i can now review the album.Billy the mountain is clever in the absurd fashion of quick improvised comedy…like the goons…famous precursors to the monty python gang.Does this mean frank listened to stravinsky and the goons….better ask frank!I agree with Klaus voorman, i wouldn’t give it to a friend as an intro to fz..i would use one of the fab four’apostrophe”one size fits all”overnite sensation’or ‘zoots allure!…yes i know!…thanks again Barry
