Sting?
Sting has made some pretty great songs.
No getting around it.
AOL itself is the worst thing to happen to civilization.
Beautiful! God! It’s God! I see God!
Kids today??? Where’s AOL fall into this list?
scott beat me to the punch…AOL tops it’s own list!
er…. khm… what is AOL?…
22. Lists that reduce rock to a series of lists
I would expand this to say ‘Lists which reduce rock to a series of lists of influences’. Influences are interesting, but they tell you nothing about the quality of the music at hand.
i love it when critics who can barely string 2 chords together rip on the horrible artistic crimes of fusion music (this includes you, ben watson). yeah, the inner mounting flame, spectrum, cobham/duke live in europe, emergency, believe it, hot rats, waka/jawaka, grand wazoo, jack johnson, live/evil, on the corner, agharta, hymn of the 7th galaxy, blow by blow, timeless, sextant, mwandishi, etc…what a bunch of total shit! i need me some death cab for cutie right about now…no, make that bloc party. no, m.i.a. no…AAARGH! fucking critics. someone send these pricks to baghdad on special dispatch.
khm… somebody care to explain AOL to us europhites?
AOL…amerika on line…first created as internet “portal” for the everyday Joe when dial-up was about all people had…pulled in a lot of dough with a generic male voice announcing “you’ve got mail!”…merged with Time Warner in what was touted as the media deal of the next century…made a few folks a ton of dough…lost a ton of dough for a lot more…still used by techno challenged surfers who are unable to cut the strings and find a decent (and usually less expensive) alternative…lots of crap running in the background that makes broadband about as slow as dial-up…sort of like plugging up the air filter on you Porsche because you are afraid to drive fast…get the picture?
LOL. Very good description of AOL, BDQ. I would add that a good thumbnail way to think of AOL (in the current context) is as the Windows of ISPs (albeit less sophisticated and with less marketshare and power) or the McDonalds of food: crappy, but ‘crappy’ is what some people think the internet (or food) experience IS.
I stopped reading at 44. Because the world needs more great lyricists like whoever wrote that “I’m in love with a Stripper” song.
