“Freak Out! The Frank Zappa Story” as hosted on BBC 4 Radio yesterday and presented by none other than Germaine Greer, is currently available via the Beeb’s “Listen Again” facility (until the end of the week). There are contributions from Gail Zappa, Dweezil, Steve Vai, Peter Occhiogrosso and David Butcher (of the Britten Sinfonia). (Thanks Ian!)

did she say, “dribs und drabs”?
wtf does she know, anyway…bitch!
(jim picks his mandible up out of his lap Again) … & now we know: Germaine Greer’s funeral will include a mob o’ famous-type folks being as solemn & dire as they can, whilst all being simultaneously inflicted with “G-SPOT TORNADO” ?!?
Sweet!
greer seems like she’d be a cool lady to hang out and shoot the shit with – especially if you’re nostalgically talking about how cool the late sixties were for lucky gals like her.
regardless, her bbc audio documentary blows. not a damn bit of new info whatsoever. hey, didja know that zappa gave his kids WACKY NAMES? didja ever once ask yerself ‘i wonder what g.greer’s gonna have playing at her funeral?’ no? didja know that deep purple were actually IN THE AUDIENCE when the montreaux casino burned down? WELL DIDJA?!
germaine, i know all the acid flashbacks occasionally interrupt the research (or lack thereof) that you do for your smug little audio reminiscences…but wikipedia is just a click away, and you can always get a drink of water and lay down if the hallucinations get too overwhelming.
Yeah, I’ve got to agree with mcnastie – greer’s bbc audio zappa doc really SUCKS. I mean, a 13-year old with a browney could do as good a job. It was just the same old zappa cliches being rehashed again and again by people who can’t SHUT UP for the consumption of people who don’t know how to listen. Play the man’s music instead of talking about it!
