At the Walt Disney Concert hall next January 5 and 6 2008: the LA Philharmonic to perform Zappa’s Dupree’s Paradise. Via David Ocker, who adds:
It’s been quite a while since the LA Phil has done any of Frank’s music, so even this modest programming of one piece is pretty remarkable.
The Disney Hall is quite a remarkable building, made by the (otherwise totally crazy) architect Frank O. Gehry.
Oooooh! I live in Los Angeles and will secure my tickets for this as soon as possible! Thanks, Barry!
ps, did anybody else notice the program’s website has bios for all the composers minus FZ?
Yeah, I noticed that. You’d think they could’ve at least stuck a pic of FZ on that page! Looks like he’s the only one without a biography page on the site…
Flakes, that’s what Frank called them, they don*’t fix your car, they
don’t reapair your washingmachine and so on. And they have forgotten
Frank, so i don’t wonder. Will they play the complete version including
the toilett-room extravaganca? I don’t think so. Sadly i live to far away,
so i won’t use flying vegetabeles for audience participation.Best Regards and have fun.
I saw the Pittsburgh Symphony play Dupree’s Paradise several years ago. They did a really good job of it.
The best part of the evening was seeing the old lady season ticket holders nodding their heads and tapping their feet to the opening figure of the piece, then watching their brains scramble when things turned weird. Definitely worth the price of admission.
