I’ve had a couple of emails asking me this, and I’d noted their site had gone offline myself sometime yesterday. I’ve no idea what’s happening but a quick domain name lookup says:
“Domain Status: Registered And No Website”
Perhaps a minor domain name hick-up — we’ll see…
As hardcore Z fan, it’s starting to feel like a “Twilight Zone” episode!
I know how the “Mud Shark” girl most of felt. And I’m not liking it one bit. Thank goodness 4 Kur. Thanks 4 the heads up Barry!

Maybe Paul/Zappateers forgot to pay the domain re-registration fee?
It sure makes one feel nervous though…..
Relax guys, it’s paid for and will be back very soon :)
“Where’s Zappateers?â€
So there’s still room for hope….by the way, I always assumed that the Zappateers guys were, let’s say “tolerated”, by the ZFT? We’ll see.

Hallelujah!!
Hallelujah!!
sure, but it’s not because you’re paranoïd that you DON’T have enemies …
Thank goodness for Zappateers! They have always been a fantastic resource in the online Zappa community. For my part, every single torrent I ever downloaded from them has been backed up and filed away for the listening pleasure of future freaks. You said it, glockenspiel:
Hallelujah!!

You are a big fan of that ’78 Poughkeepsie tape, which does have amazing sound/music….Would you (or any other freaks) care to suggest any other great eff zee boots to track down once the site is back?
It’s back up! Woo hoo!

WOW! now that’s a list. Thanks so much urbangraffito! Hopefully others in the community will find this list helpful as well
Hi urbangraffito, pls help me. How can I download from Zappateers?
I don´t understand this bit torrent business. Okay, I´m blonde, but don´t hold this against me, will you?
Yes you´re right urbangraffito, to call me stupid would be an insult to stupid people. You´ve known sheep who could outwit me. You´ve worn suits with higher IQs, but please give me a hand … ;-)
You’re right, Roland. That site is something for peole with square eyes.
And the only technique which we, you & I, are really mastering is peeling bananas.
Here bernard, I´ll share my bananas with you gladly … ;-))

First thing you do is download some appropriate torrent download software (I use Azureus because I’m a Mac user and I’ve never had any problems with their software). Zappateers has a technical section which outlines which downloading software doesn’t work well on their site, i.e. bugs, etc. (read that first before downloading any kind of software). Then once you’ve chosen the software right for you and your particular PC, look for those shows you are interested in that currently have *seeders* (seeders are ppl who have already downloaded the torrent and are currently offering to share it with other members — the more seeders there are, the faster the download.) If the show you want isn’t currently seeded, you can make a request in the request section (be patient, all of this is done on goodwill and the sharing of bandwidth). Important note: once you have downloaded a torrent of a show, don’t just sign out, but let others get the files from you as well. In reality, Zappateers doesn’t possess any of the shows I’ve listed, they only act as a central hub where ppl share shows from their computers (so once you download a show, or shows, you are part of that hub. And don’t feel *stupid*, either, I had to have my own son help me figure out all this torrenting stuff at first (it’s always a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, but well worth it). Hope this was helpful, Roland.
Thank you urbangraffito, I appreciate your explanation.
Glad to hear, that I´m not that THICK AS A BRICK!

I believe this is why the Zippo family can’t close down the site. There is no central hub? Is this true??
On the other hand, KUR has a definite central scrutinizer.

Don’t be naive. If the domain name in question is a .com, .org or .net, it’s a matter of seconds to track down its owner — or central scrutinizer if you prefer. Regardless of what is being offered on the site in question (torrent, mp3, …), there is always someone paying for hosting and such. Your Berger-Kahn’s and ZFT’s can track that person down and C&D him/her.

Quite a few torrent sites have relocated to Canada over the last few few years after the US law made it easier to bring them to court. The US gov’t is pressuring the Canadian gov’t to change it’s laws to bring them in line with their American counterparts, but so far the Canadian gov’t has resisted.
Got kinda nervous when the Zappateers site could not be found.
It’s the fucking best !!!
Hoping for a fast return of this “monster magnet ” !!:p
