KUR Corp. is having a busy start of the year. This last picture shows our little commonalty making use of an ingenious deVICe (the Vine Generator) designed to disseminate bootlegs across the world to followers that can’t download them for some reason. People who are not shown here are still recovering from their hangover in the backyard.

Two days ago, in 1940
“On December 21, 1940, Frank Jr. came into the world – or actually almost didn’t come into the world. Mom was in labor with Frank for thirty-six hours and they both almost died. Frank came into the world butt first, and his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. He was already doing things his own way. But with a steady hand and lots of praying and probably an occasionally uttered oath by the attending physician, the umbilical cord was removed from his neck and sometime in the early morning hours Frank Vincent Zappa made his debut at Baltimore’s Mercy Hospital.” (excerpt, and picture of Frank with mom from the book ‘My Brother was a Mother’, by Patrice ‘Candy’ Zappa)
WYSIWYG
Barry has told me my folder (“sharleena’s crap” folder) is going to explode if i don’t clean it up from time to time, so here’s some of my secret files unloaded fer ya: photos by Rik Walton; cool drawings at the UM Art Kitchen, several video captures throughout the years, very good photos by Scott Yobp, a beautiful print collage (not sure about the author, possibly Jasper T. Dawg?); a huge gallery with pics from the 70’s, and a print art work by Brian Talbot. Pheeeow…that folder is feeling better now.
Just add a bit of olive oil…
Our waiter in Italy is offering the Halloween DVD at La Chromo Dinetto this month. For the Young Sophisticates among our readers, the menu includes also Reverb Canneloni and Magic RA Compressed Lasagna. Bon apetit!
Brand New Fotoblog
Sorongoblog: a blog project featuring the recent sport-art of soreting (in Argentina: sorete or sorongo=turd, hence the name of the sport-art). Los lectores de habla hispana podrán disfrutar, además, de consejos y secretos de composición de las obras. Los otros, se lo pierden.
Austrian Peefeeyatko
Some nice shots captured from Peefeeyatko, a documentary made by the Austrian tv about Synclavier composition techniques. Look at Zappa’s glasses! I’d like to see this program some time…
A table!
The UMRK trattorie is serving You Are What You Is this month on their cutie Chrome Dinette. Great disc that features Heavenly Bank Account, Harder Than Your Husband, Doreen among other all time favorites. Don’t miss it if you don’t have it at home yet.
Baby Snakes: Decoding The Plan
I’m not sure if we posted this before, but hey, ignore me if we did: some technical info i obviously don’t understand, but you will surely find very interesting.

Feeling slightly depressed on an early monday morning? Join the Loyal Order Of The Water Buffalo. You won’t be disappointed.
Frank’s old guitars
Highly reliable sources have identified the guitar Zappa is playing in the picture from his graduation book, in 1958: it’s a Supro Dual Tone, manufactured by Valco in the ’50s. Oh, and the picture of the Blackouts that is in The Real FZ book (pag 45), well it doesn’t feature Frank!, apparently that’s Ronnie Williams. Here’s another pic with both, Ronnie with the Telecaster and behind him, Frank with the Jazzmaster. I knew you could not have a good weekend without knowing this! (Thanks Old Zircon from zappa-es yahoogroups)
The little house he used to live in
Check out the inside/outside views of Zappa’s former Laurel Canyon house. Awesome! (thanks Francesco)
Here’s one with your father’s moustache
There’s still time for applying to the World Beard and Moustache Championships, taking place this year in Carson City, USA. Imperials+goatees are listed in the Categories section. Be daring!
Keeping fingers crossed!
While Barry is competing with his band Moonbug at the WestTalent rock rally, i’ve found this interesting site featuring covers and the groups that made them which seems to be pretty much exhaustive (for example, even when The Persuasions are listed once under “Frank Zappa”, the rest of the covers they made from him are listed under “The Persuasions”). Btw, Barry made his Zen practice, had his daily 6 liters of radiactive water and rehearsed 27 times his Abbot & Costello routine for the event, so i think everything is gonna be ok for Moonbug. Bonne chance!
