No Brains Please, We’re The Police

I’ll keep it short:

A Federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit by a man who was barred from the New London police force because he scored too high on an intelligence test.

Who Are The Brain Police, indeed.

On The Bus

ZPZ on the road again – a few words from DZ:

It’s true we’re back on the road. We’re headed to Minneapolis to start the 08 tour with a bunch of new material. The same core band is with me along with our good friend and special guest Ray White.

A lot has transpired since the Japanese tour ended back in January. We’ve released the 06 DVD in wide distribution, I’ve started some preliminary work on the the Austin DVD, I’ve mixed about a dozen songs for a live ZPZ 07 record (Due out later this year) and I have completely rebuilt my guitar rig from the ground up in order to more accurately reproduce some of Frank’s signature guitar tones. And on a personal note, 2 weeks ago my wife and I welcomed our second child into the outside world. Her name is Ceylon and her big sister Zola is very fond of her already.

There’s a tiny mp3 there of DZ’s guitar-work.

Of Foo Fighters, Michael Bolton & Julian Colbeck

Quick trip to the library this morning to grab some CD’s and DVD’s. Among the items we brought back: Foo Fighters‘ “One By One“. When I popped that disc in the Mac for a quick listen, here’s what appeared in iTunes:

foo fighters - michael bolton

Now, unless this is a one off fuck-up (highly unlikely), there must be thousands of last.fm subscribers that don’t know the first thing about mp3 tagging, scrobbling this Foo Fighters album, thereby effectively spreading the message that they love Michael Bolton. Thanks for the LOL Dave.

In other news, I got my hands on “yet another” Frank Zappa biography (thx bernard), imaginatively titled “Zappa: A Biography“, by Julian Colbeck. This one’s interesting as it was written in 1987 — that is to say: while Zappa was still alive (and about to kick off the ’88 tour). FZ-fans seem to have received it with disdain at the time (“useless“), however I quite like this particular bio. Its lack of pretension is refreshing — the book presents a “matter-of-fact” overview of Zappa’s life and music without going into minute detail (I’m looking at you, Miles). In all: a great introduction into Planet Zappa for The Young Sophisticate.

Right, well having said that, we’re off to watch:

* Yes of course we’ve seen these before. Jeez!

Joe’s M’ssage

Joe Travers’ letter, on the audio-tracks of the new DVD – found on the Usenet group alt.fan.frank-zappa:

I’m sorry Mark, but it’s Dolby Digital. We originally were going to with PCM audio but we decided that we would go Dolby since we did not treat the audio in any way, nor remix. We went for picture quality instead. But when we switched the audio, the print work had already been completed.
That’s the story. We are planning on a special edition-type release with (hopefully) the full shows & all remixed in surround. The Nina Blackwood stuff should be on that.

Enjoy & thanks!!!
Joe

Khm.
